Walk In Obedience

Blessed are they who keep his statues and seek him with all their heart. Psalm 119:2

Today’s passage is not only a biblical fact but it is also a prophetic promise for those who keep God’s statutes and seek Him with all their heart, mind, and spirit. God will bless them and they will prosper in ways that fulfill God’s will for their lives. What a perfect promise no matter what you may be facing in life!

I love the way 1 Kings 2:3 depicts King David’s advice to His son Solomon as David’s time on earth was coming to an end, “… and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go …” King David was advising Solomon on how to live a godly life by doing these spiritual things:

  • Pay attention to what the Lord requires (act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God)
  • Live life and rule the kingdom in obedience to God
  • Keep God’s decrees, commands, laws, and regulations.

By doing these three things, Solomon would not only prosper in all He did but He would set a righteous example for those over whom he ruled. By setting this example, the people of God would see how to live a godly life. Then, if they kept God’s statutes, they too would be blessed just like today’s passage from the Psalms promises.

God provides each of us with the spiritual strength, biblical wisdom, and inspirational insight to keep His statutes and seek His guidance. All we need do is choose to follow Him with all our heart. Even on my foggiest days (for now anyway), I still seek the Lord and try my best to do what the Lord requires; walk in obedience to Him. As such I am a joyful and blessed man!

No matter what your struggles may be, take King David’s and the Psalmist’s advice to heart. Do your best each day to seek the Lord and walk in obedience to Him. He will bless you in accordance with His will for your life and you will be a more joyful person!
