He Turns His Ear to Me

Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live. Psalm 116:2

Today’s passage presents an amazing aspect of our Heavenly Father. God turns His ear to those who love Him and are called His children. I love the way the New Living Translation expresses Psalm 116:2, “Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath.”

God turns His ear, bends down, and listens to His children. What a perfect promise! Don’t we all want to be heard or listened to whenever we speak? To be able to pray aloud or silently, to simply converse with God about our day, or to cry out in frustration when this world is just too much to handle. It is an amazing gift of grace we’ve been given! To simply be able to talk with our Heavenly Father about our joys, sorrows, concerns, desires, troubles, and worries knowing full well that He will turn His ear and bend down to listen to us.

Personal prayer is one of those generous gifts of grace in which God allows us to participate. If you are struggling today, spend some time talking to the only One who bends down from heaven to listen to what you have to say. He will most certainly hear your voice and consider all your concerns. How do I know this? Because His Holy Word says He will so I believe it.

Besides that, I know He listens to me every day as I share my life, my worries, my frustrations, my joys, and my concerns as I deal with the daily demands of dementia. How do I know He listens? Because He provides me strength, comfort, security, and even joy after we talk. Therefore, if He will listen to me, He will surely listen to you. So share your life with Him today and know that He will turn His ear to you as well.

This devotion reminds me of a favorite old hymn of mine. I hope you don’t mind that I write it in its full length.

    In the Garden

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear
The Son of a God discloses.

    And He walks with me
    And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His in
    And the joy we share
    As we tarry there
    None other has ever known

He speaks and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing
And the melody that He gave to me
    Within my heart is ringing.

I’d stay in the garden with Him
Tho the night around me be falling
But he bids me to go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.

Dear Paul, may you hear God’s voice in your lovely garden.

Ruth, In the Garden is one of my favorites. I often sing it as I walk around the gardens here at the homestead. Thanks for posting it! God bless, Paul
